What metal do you use for your earring posts?
Our earring posts, backs and hooks are made from hypoallergenic stainless steel, chosen for its durability, resistance to tarnish, and comfort for sensitive ears. We prioritise skin safety by using hypoallergenic materials like stainless steel.
Our earrings are nickel-free and designed to minimize allergic reactions, making them suitable for most people with metal sensitivities.
What is laser cutting?
Laser cutting or etching is using a very focused beam of light to burn a design into or through a material. The material in the path of the laser is vaporised cutting the desired shape from the background. By controlling the power and speed of the beam you can etch into the surface adding design details.
Will my item have scorch marks?
The edges of laser cut timber or plywood will be burnt, as this is part of the making process. This creates the brown or black edge that is characteristic of laser cut products. Burn marks on the front or back of the timber are the residue from cutting on the surface and we avoid these by treating all our timber products before cutting. Acrylic that has been laser cut will have a polished edge.
What materials are available?
Our products are primarily cut from plywood that is veneered in natural timber. We also cut cast acrylic.
There are currently six different timber veneers available for most products. Please check our available timbers page to get an idea of what the colour and timber grain of each looks like. There will always be natural variations in timber colour and grain, as each of the veneers come from a different piece of timber.
We don’t keep a large range of acrylic colours in stock, however we can source over eighty colours on request. If you have a particular colour in mind for your project, please contact us to discuss your ideas.
Why do you use plywood not solid timber?
There are several reasons. Plywood is a very economical way to use timber, as only very thin veneers are used in each sheet, increasing the sustainability of what is becoming a scarce resource. Due to the way ply is constructed, alternating the grain direction in each layer means it is stronger than solid timber. Lastly, the ply we use is manufactured here in Australia, it is free from formaldehyde-based glues and made using timber veneers that come from sustainably managed forests.
Doesn’t laser cutting use a lot of energy?
We offset our power usage using solar panels. Over a year, we produce far more energy than we use. Any energy not used or stored on site is transferred back to the grid.
Can I send you material to be cut?
The simple answer is no. Many materials produce very toxic compounds when cut, for example chrome cured leather and PVC. So, in the interests of health and safety, we can’t accept these materials for cutting your project. We will however work with you to find a suitable alternative.
What are your turnaround times?
Turnaround times vary from product to product. If you choose an in-stock product, turnaround times will be between 5-10 working days from the time you order to when it is in the mail. If you choose to customise an order, this will add time to the production. If you choose a product that is Made-to-Order; production time, including cutting, assembling and finishing will be 10-14 working days.
Do you accept rush orders?
If you have a great idea, but very little time, please contact us and we will work with you. Do keep in mind that it is not always possible to meet your request, but we’ll do our best. A rush order may attract a fee; this will be discussed with you when ordering and confirmed by email. Please also keep in mind that while a rush order may get you to the front of the cutting and finishing list, once your order has left us we have no control over delivery times. NOTE: Rush orders are not accepted during peak periods.
Can I send you my own design?
We love working on new designs, so if you have a great idea, contact us to discuss it. Any design you send must be your own. Please don’t ask us to copy a design you have found somewhere as the answer will be no. This is breach of copyright.
